Devil´s adit

In order to increase public involvement, a Buchberg 1269 mobile application has been complemented with a game that includes a detective plot called "Devil's Tunnel". The story of the game takes place in medieval Buchberg in 1269. The player takes on the role of a young knight Jakub of Týn and gradually reveals the terrible secret that this mine site hides. On his way, he meets historical figures who, thanks to preserved written sources, are directly connected with the locality and visits individual places in the mines, which are in some way tied to the mining and processing of silver ore. The whole plot will be untied in the underground tunnels s of the mine, which the player has the opportunity to enter with assistance of augmented reality.

It is the form of the game, which has the potential to quickly draw visitors to the site. It allowes an entertaining and original way to provide not only computer visualization of the then mining area, but also naturaly convey information about life in it and the functioning of the silver mining process in the Middle Ages. This type of action-based access to knowledge through direct interaction with the visitor can thus represent a desirable alternative approach to quickly break down the barrier between the public and archeology as a science and lead to a better understanding of the values of general as well as very specific cultural and historical heritage.
